We live in a world full of different kinds of boundary making and therefore rich with experiences of belonging and exclusion, some of which are determined by the state and others by how we perceive people’s places of origin. Abdul Fattah Ismail/Extended Syllables offered spoken word poetry; movement artist Marielys Burgos Meléndez shared an absorbing exposed process; Laura Slatkin, professor of Classics, discussed the Greek origins of citizenship; Allison Albino read her poetry the exploring the legacy of her parents’ immigrant experience; and Marko Kovacevic administered a version of the US citizenship test after screening a film about the experience of taking the test.*

*Spoiler: in a room dominated by US citizens, not all of us passed.
